Having adequate muscle strength and control in your core, pelvis and legs helps to protect you from a variety of injuries, including runner’s knee (patellofemoral pain) and ITB syndrome. But how do you know whether you're strong enough? And how can you test your control?
Running injuries can have multiple causes. MEET MARYKE LOUW
I qualified as a physiotherapist back in 2004 and have always loved being active, so in 2010 I decided to specialise in sport. Since then I've completed an MSc in Sports Injury Management and have worked with a wide range of athletes, including elite distance runners in Ethiopia.
Running has always been my passion and bizarrely I get more of a kick from helping regular runners stay injury free or get back to running when injured than working with elites. I think this is because I know from my own experience what an important role sport and running can play in my general mood and happiness.
In 2014 I created Sports Injury Physio, my online physio clinic, to allow people from all over the world access to quality sports injury treatment. This member site has been a natural progression from there.
This is an evolving one-stop-shop for injury prevention and treatment advice that is community driven. This means that I need your input to understand better what you want/need. So make sure that you give me loads of feedback! I need to know what is missing, what is frustrating you about the site and what you think would be really cool.
